Explore our latest innovations with new high availability configurations, seamless upgrades, and compliance-ready migrations — all designed to meet the sovereignty demands of modern enterprises.
While everyone's talking about AI, successful AI applications still depend on rock-solid database fundamentals. That's why as we launch EDB Postgres AI — our sovereign data and AI platform that bridges the gap between your data and your AI ambitions — we've also strengthened our core database capabilities that enterprises rely on every day. From flexible new high availability options to streamlined Kubernetes deployments and enhanced security compliance, these updates address the real operational challenges you face while building the foundation that powers your most critical applications. Let's explore how these enhancements drive operational efficiency, performance, security, and compliance outcomes for enterprises running their businesses on Postgres.
Expanded high availability (HA) offerings and updates
Applications running in production require multiple levels of high availability to ensure business continuity if systems were to fail. For mission critical and latency-sensitive apps, EDB Postgres AI offers Distributed HA (PGD Expanded for standalone deployments) as a solution to run Postgres in active/active geo-distributed clusters with up to 99.999% availability.
However, many applications need advanced high availability capabilities without the complexity and overhead of geo-distributed clusters. To bridge this gap, we have released EDB Postgres AI - Advanced HA (PGD Essential for standalone deployments), which provides up to 99.99% uptime within a single location. This flexible new deployment option provides distributed database functionality — like fast failover, online maintenance, and online major version upgrades — but with minimal complexity, extending advanced HA benefits to any workload.
You can set up either Advanced HA or Distributed HA in minutes (versus hours or days) with the intuitive EDB Postgres AI Hybrid Manager interface, or use Trusted Postgres Architect if you prefer to use the command line.
Other updates to our Distributed HA and Advanced HA capabilities include:
- Built-in connection manager: Automatically routes client connections to the correct node, simplifies application architecture, supports dynamic topology changes, and includes a built-in session pooler and dedicated read/write and read-only ports, all without external software or complex configuration.
- Predefined commit scopes: Simplify consistency choices with built-in transaction durability profiles — no complicated setup needed. Choose the right balance of performance and protection, with scopes defined in system catalogs and ready to use out of the box.
- New CLI command for cluster setup: The node setup command now enables initial cluster creation and node addition directly from the command line. This gives users more flexibility in how they deploy HA offerings and allows deployment tools to standardize on a consistent method.
Enhanced Postgres deployment, upgrade, and data management capabilities
EDB Postgres AI has enhanced key operational capabilities across the Postgres lifecycle, from streamlined Kubernetes upgrades to more powerful monitoring with Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM) 10.1.0.
If you’re deploying Postgres in Kubernetes, you can now use EDB Postgres AI for CloudNativePG Cluster to perform in-place major version upgrades declaratively. Upgrading from one major version of Postgres to another on Kubernetes deployments is typically challenging, requiring you to create another cluster with the latest version of Postgres and migrate data over from your existing cluster, leading to unnecessary downtime. Now, you can perform these tasks with a streamlined process and avoid step-by-step manual upgrades.
Data management and monitoring of Postgres clusters is critical to any deployment. Normally, data management tasks require time spent going through numerous lines of code within the CLI and the psql tool. With the new release of PEM version 10.1.0, you can now better manage your Postgres Clusters. You can easily manage and monitor the health of open source Patroni clusters, quickly create an HA deployment of PEM itself, and gain faster insight into HA deployments with node roles and groups surfaced in the UI.
Migration tools expand security compliance
With migration capabilities in EDB Postgres AI, customers can rapidly modernize on Postgres from legacy source systems like Oracle. To make sure data is replicated when going from source to destination, EDB Postgres AI provides a Replication Server. The latest Replication Server updates enable greater compliance with US Government regulations by supporting AES-SHA256 — a new FIPS-compliant password encryption method that certifies Replication Server for use in FIPS-compliant environments.
