At EDB, we believe that leadership in PostgreSQL isn’t just about delivering world-class technology—it’s about showing up for the community. That’s why we’re proud to be a Gold Sponsor of PGDay Blumenau 2025, a growing cornerstone of the PostgreSQL ecosystem in Brazil.
On May 24th, 2025, this engaging event will be held in the vibrant tech hub of Blumenau, Santa Catarina. This year’s PGDay aims to expand on last year’s success with increased attendance, better visibility, and deeper community engagement. EDB is honored to play a central role in supporting that vision.
PGDay Blumenau 2025: Elevating Brazil’s PostgreSQL Community
Now in its second year, PGDay Blumenau is quickly becoming a flagship PostgreSQL event in Brazil. EDB Senior Support Engineer, RDBA II Joao Foltran is playing a key role in organizing this event. With an expected 90 - 100 attendees, up from 80 last year, Joao tells us he is excited to see the growing excitement and engagement from his local Postgres community in Blumenau.
EDB Speakers and Community Presence
EDB is bringing a strong team to PGDay Blumenau, with more than 15 EDB employees expected to attend, representing support, RDBA, SRE, and engineering teams. We are proud to have four featured speakers at this year’s event:
Speaker: EDB Senior Support Engineer Richard Sabino Topic: Workload Analysis with pg_profile.
This talk will focus on the pg_profile extension which helps in performance diagnostics. The session will also explore the differences and similarities of the pg_profile extension compared to Oracle’s AWR report.
Speaker: EDB Principal Engineer Euler Taveira Topic: Scaling Postgres with PGBouncer
This session will cover the challenges and opportunities that engineers may encounter when scaling postgres with PGBouncer.
Speaker: EDB Senior Principal Support Engineer William Ivanski Topic: Oracle's NUMBER datatype with pg_numbertype in Postgres
William will demonstrate a new extension called pg_numbertype that he created, which provides the NUMBER datatype to Postgres, similar to Oracle's dataype with the same name.
Speaker: EDB Support Engineer Felipe Castro Lightning Talk: Introduction to Autovacuum.
This quick talk (20min) will explore the importance of autovacuum, with details on some common challenges and best practices. |
These respected EDB experts will share insights grounded in real-world PostgreSQL deployments, observability, and community best practices. Their talks exemplify the kind of thought leadership and technical depth that EDB brings to every corner of the global Postgres ecosystem.
Looking Ahead
The city of Blumenau, often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of Brazil,” offers the perfect backdrop. A hub for software engineering and infrastructure services, it’s also known for its rich German heritage, which is reflected in PGDay Blumenau’s event branding and logo, complete with timber-frame architecture and nods to Blumenau Oktoberfest, the second-largest celebration of its kind in the world.
As we gear up for PGDay Blumenau, we’re not just sponsoring a conference—we’re supporting a movement. EDB is proud to be part of a growing effort to elevate PostgreSQL across Latin America. And we’re especially proud to do it alongside our customers, partners, and colleagues in a city that so uniquely blends history, innovation, and community.
We’ll see you in Blumenau.
